Most recently I was Director of Drama at Birkenhead
Sixth Form College. I also founded and for ten years ran my own
Youth Theatre Company in Surrey.
A few years
ago I won the Kythira Prize awarded by the Historical Novel Society
for a short story. The prize was a two-week writing course on the
Greek island of Kythira, tutored by Helen Carey and Louis de Berniere.
Louis was most impressed with my work and gave me a lot of encouragement.
I
took early retirement in order to concentrate on my writing and
in 2003 I completed an MA in Creative Writing at Liverpool John Moores University.
My first
novel, published by Hodder and Stoughton, is set in World War II
and called We'll Meet Again . It has been followed
by a companion volume, Never Say Goodbye.
I have
two grown up sons and two grandchildren. My hobbies include walking,
gardening, horse riding, bridge and travel.
