Margaret McDonagh
Encouraged by my parents, who fostered my love of reading, I began losing myself in the magical world of books from a very young age, from children's classics like 'Anne of Green Gables' and 'The Secret Garden' to other favourites including the pony books by the Pullein-Thompson sisters, the animal adventures by Willard Price, Enid Blyton's 'Famous Five' and 'Secret Seven' and Helen Dore Boylston's 'Sue Barton' series of nursing stories. Then came more grown-up books, plus the discovery of the wonderful Mills & Boon romances! I read avidly but always knew that I had to write. Despite inevitable rejection letters, I pursued the dream for over twenty years, having numerous romance novellas, plus magazine short stories and serials published along the way.
The news that my first 'proper book' had been accepted by Harlequin Mills & Boon for their Medical Romance line, brought indescribable joy. The Italian Doctor's Bride was published in paperback in October 2006. Several more titles are now in the pipeline and I am contracted for more. I am delighted and very fortunate to be able to write a series of loosely-linked books set around my fictional town and villages in rural Scotland. This means I never have to say goodbye to my characters and many will be popping up again from book to book. I am intrigued by the dynamics of small communities and the special people who provide dedicated health care in these areas, developing a broad interest in their patients and wider families.

Aside from writing and reading books, my hobbies include listening to music, debating current affairs and watching sport, especially football, athletics, golf and motorsports. I have a keen interest in the environment and a love of animals. I hate cooking, housework and hot weather, but I love crisp autumn days, Innocent smoothies and my fostered orphan baby elephant!
